My Raise Got Me Nothing

Did you ever notice that $15 per hour (which was fought for in several states as the base wage) now gets you just about the same as $8 did before the fight to get it raised?

Yup. Corporate greed found a way to make up for that measly $7 raise, and then make it even worse (payback is a b*tch, right?)

I have not eaten a balanced breakfast in 10 years. I consume a cup of coffee made at home or at work, a can of soup or small sandwich for lunch, and a one-bowl dinner consistimg of either salad, pasta, or rice.  I have found myself salivating at the idea of a meat-based meal, but rarely get it unless a friend offers it, or I break my budget to splurge once in a while. The closest I come to meat in my diet is the ground meat in jarred pasta sauce, or the tiny chunks of chichen that come with packaged ramen. My meals cost $5 or less (Usually around $2.50-$3.00). Years ago I was able to spend $10 on a good meal, and that was considered frugal.

I am barely able to sustain my rent plus bills. My boss told me that she "wished she could have given more" when she told me what my raise was. Why couldn't she give a living wage? Because her corporate overlings issued a new and more ruthless determination of how many "points" to give or take from an employee's record, and thereby calculate their worth.

I am taking a permanent second job to fill out my work week, which will be 54 hours of work per week. I am 60 years old. When will I be able to rest? Eat well?.Have a vacation?
